Field Application Engineer (Onsite)
About this position
The Field Application Engineer (Onsite) serves as the primary technical liaison between the customer’s engineering team and TE Connectivity, focusing on existing products and new product development opportunities while providing expert support in application and lighting.
Responsibilities
• Be the initial point of contact for the customer’s local engineering group
• Function as the technical interface between the customer’s engineers and the TE engineering community on all existing products as well as focus on new product development opportunities
• Be the Home application & Lighting expert at the customer site during the promotion, design, and validation phases
• Interact directly with key customers regularly and coordinate the deliverables related to customer projects including new products, modifications to existing products, test studies, signal integrity modeling, and any other development efforts
• Establish relationships with key customer engineering contacts and decision-makers
• Gain a solid understanding of the customer’s product set and future roadmap
• Use VOC (Voice of Customer) tools to understand the accounts’ technology, strategic direction, and electronic connectivity needs. Communicate these needs to internal TE Connectivity teams
• Support a cross-functional, global team specific to the customer. The team may consist of a Program Manager, Quality Engineering, Logistics, Procurement, Operations, and Sales
• Penetrate customers’ design cycle to be involved in the early stages of new product/platform planning
• Support existing applications and products including tolerance analysis, application evaluation, and testing
• Provide product training (internal and external)
Requirements
• Ability to leverage engineering competency to understand customer requirements directly related to interconnects, sockets, and cable assemblies
• Fundamental understanding of connector design and mechanical assembly and/or manufacturing techniques
• Design for Manufacturing (DFM) review, preparation, and presentation to address customer design, engineering, and manufacturing requirements
• Detailed understanding of manufacturing processes to include stamping, molding, plating, and automated product assembly
• Experience in development engineering and participation in the full product development cycle
• Demonstrated proficiency in 3D Design Applications, ProE or Solidworks preferred, SpaceClaim beneficial.
• BS degree in Engineering required (Mechanical / Systems discipline preferred)
• At least 8 years of engineering experience in the connector industry
• Language: Excellent in English. Japanese, Chinese is an advantage
• Experience working with Distribution (Channel) a strong preference
