About this position

Global Packaging Engineering group is a global team responsible for packaging of finished HDDs, SSDs, HDD components, Retail products, assembled Systems and Systems peripherals. Our group works closely with all Seagate HDD factories, Seagate Media and Substrate factories, EDS design center and contract manufacturers.

Responsibilities

• Develop packaging designs for Enterprise Data Storage systems and components
• Perform package testing against ISTA/ASTM standards and generate test reports
• Develop recommendations according to the nature of the product, cost consideration, legal requirements, and types of protection, i.e. shipping distribution, moisture, chemicals, ESD and automation
• Manage packaging BOMs
• Generate and document packaging drawings
• Develop/generate and document packaging and label instructions
• Communicate/interact with mechanical design team in LCO on new products, product refresh
• Communicate/interact with system contract manufacturers –Guadalajara Mexico, Tianjin China, Seagate factories, CMT, Purchasing, Supplier Quality/Engineering, Marketing, and external packaging suppliers

• Ability to effectively understand and interpret engineering mechanical design

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science fields.
• HDD and System Data Storage manufacturing industry knowledge
• Working knowledge of standard software tools e.g. MS-Office, Windchill, JIRA, Agile
• Able to understand engineering dwg and 3D model
• 3D CAD modeling on Solidworks or similar desired
• Six Sigma or statistics experience is a plus
• Product development project management with cross functional team participation
• Knowledge on expanded foam cushion design
• Familiar with product or materials qualification
• Knowledge / experience mechanical testing e.g. vibration, impact(shock) and compression
