About this position

The System Engineer/System Administrator (Linux/VMware) is responsible for managing and maintaining Linux servers, Docker containers, and virtualization environments, ensuring system performance, reliability, and security.

Responsibilities

• Linux System Administration: Manage, maintain, and troubleshoot Linux servers to ensure consistent system uptime, performance, and reliability.
• Docker Container Management: Deploy, manage, and optimize Docker containers and images for both development and production environments.
• System Infrastructure Management:
• Configure, manage, and monitor server hardware and storage solutions, ensuring data availability, scalability, and redundancy.
• Collaborate on infrastructure design and implementation aligned with business and operational needs.
• Virtualization Management:
• Deploy, configure, and maintain virtualization environments using VMware and Nutanix platforms.
• Optimize virtualized environments for performance and resource utilization, including virtual machine lifecycle management, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
• Work on infrastructure scalability, leveraging Nutanix hyper-converged infrastructure for streamlined resource allocation and high availability.
• Backup and Recovery: Develop and maintain backup and recovery solutions, ensuring regular testing and rapid recovery capabilities for critical data and systems.
• System Monitoring and Optimization: Implement system monitoring and proactive performance tuning to ensure efficient operation across environments.
• Security and Compliance: Conduct security assessments, apply patches, and implement practices to maintain secure and compliant infrastructure.
• Automation and Scripting: Use scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python) to automate routine tasks, backup processes, and system configurations.
• Collaboration: Work closely with developers, IT, and digital operations teams to align system configurations with application needs and organizational goals.

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Experience: 3+ years in Linux System Administration or a similar role, with a focus on virtualization.
• Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in Linux (CentOS, Ubuntu, or similar) system administration.
• Strong understanding of Docker containers, image management, and orchestration (Kubernetes is a plus).
• Extensive experience with virtualization technologies, including VMware (e.g., vSphere, vCenter) and Nutanix (e.g., AHV, Prism).
• Knowledge of server infrastructure, SAN/NAS storage configurations, and redundancy practices.
• Proven skills in managing backup and recovery processes.
• Experience with monitoring and performance tools (e.g., Nagios, Prometheus).
• Knowledge of network configurations, firewalls, and security best practices.
• Scripting skills in Bash, Python, or similar for automation.
• Certifications (preferred): RHCSA, Docker Certified Associate, VMware Certified Professional, Nutanix Certified Professional, or equivalent.
• Soft Skills:

• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Time management and task prioritization abilities.
