About this position
The Cashier is responsible for processing customer payments, handling financial transactions accurately, and providing excellent customer service. Working in a healthcare or related environment, this role requires an understanding of billing processes, insurance co-pays, and health service fees. Experience in healthcare or similar sectors is preferred to enhance familiarity with specific billing practices, patient interactions, and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
• Payment Processing: Receive and accurately process payments, including cash, credit, debit, and checks, in line with healthcare billing requirements.
• Billing Support: Assist patients with billing inquiries, insurance questions, and payment plans. Explain fees, co-pays, and deductibles in a clear and courteous manner.
• Reconciliation: Balance cash register at the end of each shift, ensuring all transactions are accounted for and discrepancies are identified and resolved promptly.
• Patient Interaction: Provide friendly, empathetic customer service to patients and families, addressing questions related to payments, billing procedures, and account balances.
• Data Entry & Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of transactions, including entering payment details into the system and ensuring patient confidentiality.
• Compliance & Security: Adhere to healthcare compliance standards (e.g., HIPAA), protect patient information, and follow security protocols for handling sensitive data and cash.
• Insurance Coordination: Assist with verification of insurance eligibility and process payments accordingly, collaborating with the billing department for complex cases.
• Process Improvement: Identify ways to improve the payment process for efficiency and better patient satisfaction.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree: in accounting, finance, or healthcare administration is a plus.
• Experience: 1+ years of cashier experience, preferably in a healthcare, pharmacy, or similar environment where billing and insurance coordination are relevant.
• Technical Skills: Familiarity with POS systems, billing software, and MS Office applications. Experience with healthcare management systems is a plus.
• Attention to Detail: Strong accuracy in handling transactions, balancing registers, and maintaining records.
• Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate payment details clearly and provide compassionate service in a healthcare setting.
• Customer Service Orientation: A patient-centered approach with the ability to handle sensitive interactions calmly and professionally.
• Problem-Solving: Capable of addressing patient questions, resolving payment issues, and coordinating with billing for complex cases.
