About this position

The Laboratory Engineer (Metallurgy) is responsible for performing and overseeing metallurgical testing, operating spectrometers, conducting tensile tests, preparing samples, analyzing data, maintaining documentation, ensuring quality control, maintaining equipment, adhering to safety protocols, and participating in continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Material Testing: Perform and oversee metallurgical testing, including tensile strength, hardness, and composition analysis using spectrometers, tensile testers, and other relevant equipment.
• Spectrometer Operation: Operate and maintain spectrometers for accurate chemical analysis of metal samples. Ensure calibration and proper functioning of the spectrometer equipment.
• Tensile Testing: Conduct tensile tests to measure the strength and ductility of metals, including stainless steel, aluminum, and other alloys. Interpret results and prepare detailed reports.
• Sample Preparation: Prepare metal samples for testing, including cutting, polishing, and mounting as required for different testing procedures.
• Data Analysis: Analyze test results to determine material properties and compare them against specifications. Identify any deviations and report findings to the relevant departments.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all tests conducted, including data logs, calibration records, and test reports. Ensure compliance with industry standards and internal quality systems.
• Quality Control: Collaborate with the Quality Control team to assess product quality and recommend improvements in materials or processes as needed.
• Equipment Maintenance: Ensure all laboratory equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and serviced according to the manufacturer's guidelines and internal schedules.
• Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and ensure that laboratory operations comply with health and safety regulations.
• Continuous Improvement: Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including the development and optimization of testing methods and procedures.

Requirements

• Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy Engineering or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in a laboratory environment, with a focus on metallurgical testing. Experience in testing metals such as stainless steel and aluminum is highly desirable.
• Technical Skills: Proficient in operating spectrometers and tensile testers.
• Technical Skills: Strong understanding of metallurgical principles and testing methodologies.
• Technical Skills: Experience in sample preparation techniques for metallurgical testing.
• Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of metal properties, particularly for stainless steel and aluminum. Familiarity with industry standards and quality control processes related to metal testing.
• Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze test data, interpret results, and generate comprehensive reports.
• Attention to Detail: Meticulous in testing procedures, data recording, and documentation.
• Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills to identify and address material defects and testing anomalies.
