Chemist – EHS Technical Support
About this position
The Chemist – EHS Technical Support position involves overseeing chemical safety management, ensuring environmental compliance, providing health and safety support, maintaining technical documentation, and driving research and innovation in chemical management.
Responsibilities
• Oversee the handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals in compliance with EHS standards and regulations.
• Conduct risk assessments for chemical use, identifying potential hazards and implementing preventive measures.
• Develop and maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and ensure chemical labels and storage align with regulatory standards.
• Monitor air, water, and waste emissions, ensuring adherence to environmental regulations and company policies.
• Conduct regular environmental sampling and testing to track pollutants and manage hazardous waste.
• Assist in implementing waste reduction, recycling, and sustainability initiatives, coordinating with EHS teams on environmental objectives.
• Collaborate with EHS teams to assess chemical-related health risks and develop emergency response procedures for chemical incidents.
• Conduct training for employees on safe chemical handling, emergency procedures, and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) use.
• Review and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) to promote safe chemical practices.
• Maintain and update technical documentation on chemical processes and safety protocols.
• Prepare and submit reports for regulatory bodies, including incident reports, audit findings, and compliance certifications.
• Assist in internal audits and inspections, supporting EHS management in identifying compliance gaps and corrective actions.
• Stay current with industry regulations, new technologies, and innovations for safer, environmentally friendly chemical alternatives.
• Research and recommend best practices for chemical use that support environmental sustainability and safety in production processes.
• Act as a subject matter expert for chemical-related queries within the organization, supporting continuous improvement in EHS practices.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
• 3-5 years of experience in a chemical management role within the manufacturing industry, ideally within electronic components or related sectors.
• Knowledge of EHS regulations, chemical safety, hazardous materials management, and experience with regulatory audits.
• Proficiency in conducting chemical analyses, preparing SDS, and using lab equipment.
• Strong understanding of REACH, and other applicable environmental and safety regulations.
• Ability to analyze data from environmental tests and audits, and proficiency in software for EHS data management and reporting.
