About this position

The Principal Scientist R&D Skin Health and Beauty AP position at Kenvue, part of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies, is responsible for implementing formula recommendations and enabling product experiences that drive consumer delight across a range of personal care brands.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for adapting formulations to enable the regional product pipelines for key brands such as Aveeno®, Neutrogena®, OGX®, Clean & Clear®.
• Work with the relevant teams to understand the consumer and project needs. Turn those insights into a learning plan to adapt formulations and/or claims/demo development that meet a specific set of criteria.
• Develop experimental plans to ensure that formulas meet expectations and are robust and ready for scale-up.
• Planning, executing and reporting laboratory trials – managing ingredient and formulation documentation to high standards in Kenvue systems.
• Understanding impact of ingredient & formula design on product performance (e.g. stability, rheology) and experience (e.g. sensory) and being able to adapt to meet required criteria.
• Support Root Cause Analysis to address problems that may occur at any stage of the development process, from lab scale, through pilot plant and to production scale.
• Partner with prototype evaluation teams for the technical evaluation of lead formulation options.
• Partner with the process development team to evaluate feasibility to manufacture formulations or formulae upgrades.
• Partner with relevant teams to address consumer, external queries on product and formulation, identifying opportunities for improvisation and communication changes.
• Working as part of a multi-functional team and managing your own workplan.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field. Advanced degree (MS or PhD) preferred.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in product development, formulation, or related field within the personal care industry.
• Strong understanding of consumer insights and ability to translate them into product development strategies.
• Experience in managing projects from concept to launch, with a focus on innovation and consumer experience.
• Knowledge of ingredient functionality and formulation design to achieve desired product performance.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-functional team environment.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to effectively present technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to conduct Root Cause Analysis.
• Experience with laboratory trials, experimental design, and documentation management.
• Knowledge of regulations and standards related to personal care product development.
