About this position
Responsibilities
• Documentation: Prepare and review all necessary import documentation, including customs clearance, shipping manifests, invoices, and certificates of origin.
• Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated with international trade regulations, customs laws, and food safety standards to ensure proper compliance during import processes.
• Logistics Management: Arrange transportation, shipping, and delivery of food products, optimizing cost-effectiveness and delivery timelines.
• Quality Control: Inspect received food shipments for quality and quantity, addressing any discrepancies or issues with suppliers.
• Communication: Liaise with internal teams, external partners, and regulatory authorities to ensure smooth import operations.
• Problem Solving: Handle any issues related to delays, damages, or other challenges in the import process.
• Cost Management: Monitor import costs, identify cost-saving opportunities, and negotiate favorable terms with suppliers and service providers.
Requirements
• Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as International Business, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related discipline is preferred.
• Experience: Previous experience in import/export operations, preferably within the food industry, is highly desirable. Experience with customs regulations, food safety standards, and international trade practices is beneficial.
• Knowledge: Strong understanding of international trade regulations, customs procedures, and food import regulations is essential. Familiarity with food safety certifications (e.g., HACCP, FDA) is a plus.
• Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are crucial for interacting with customs officials, external partners and internal stakeholders.
• Attention to Detail: Given the importance of accurate documentation and compliance, a high level of attention to detail is required.
• Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to identify and address issues that may arise during the import process is important.
• Analytical Abilities: Proficiency in analyzing import costs, logistics routes, and supply chain efficiency is beneficial.
• Organizational Skills: Effective organization and multitasking skills are necessary to manage multiple shipments and tasks simultaneously.
• Computer Proficiency: Familiarity with software for tracking shipments and preparing documentation is essential. Familiarity with using ERP systems or similar software for import and supply chain management.
