About this position
The Import Specialist is responsible for overseeing and managing the importation process of goods and materials for the company. This includes coordinating with suppliers, customs agents, and transportation providers to ensure timely and efficient delivery. The Import Specialist will report directly to the Supply Chain Manager and collaborate closely with other departments to ensure smooth operations and compliance with import regulations.
Responsibilities
• Coordinate and manage all aspects of the import process, including documentation, customs clearance, and transportation logistics.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and trade agreements related to imports.
• Review and verify import documentation, such as commercial invoices, packing lists, and bills of lading, to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Classify imported goods according to the Harmonized System (HS) codes and determine the appropriate duty rates and customs fees.
• Communicate with suppliers, freight forwarders, and customs brokers to ensure timely and efficient import operations.
• Monitor and track shipments to ensure on-time delivery and resolve any issues or delays that may arise.
• Prepare and submit import declarations and other required documents to customs authorities.
• Maintain accurate import records and files, including purchase orders, shipping documents, and customs documentation.
• Stay updated on changes in import regulations and trade policies to ensure compliance and identify potential cost-saving opportunities.
• Collaborate with internal teams, such as procurement, sales, and finance
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in international business, supply chain management, or a related field
• Strong knowledge of import regulations, customs procedures, and international trade laws
• Experience in managing import processes, including documentation, customs clearance, and logistics coordination
• Proficiency in using import-related software and tools, such as customs brokerage systems and trade compliance software
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills to interact with suppliers, customs officials, and internal stakeholders
