Engineer Manufacturing (Fabrication-Welding)
About this position
Demonstrates in depth conceptual and practical knowledge in design and coordination of building tools, welding fixtures, automatic systems, and attachments used in Welding Process, Fabrications, Assembly, and Production operations. Is responsible for locating and evaluating the capabilities of external design and build suppliers. Provides technical support and solves complex problems in analysis of manufacturing systems. Works collaboratively with Product Development and Manufacturing to yield innovative products and processes. Implementation and is responsible for supporting and delivering the Life Cycle Plan from concept to production at our various manufacturing plants. Impacts opportunities to influence design for assembly and solves complex problems with development of integrated manufacturing systems, standardized processes and templates, risk assessment and mitigation, and after-action reviews.
Responsibilities
• Participate with product engineering, manufacturing engineering, Welding Fixture supplier, Tooling supplier, Automatic systems supplier, and work groups to continually drive productivity improvements, cycle time reduction, reduced tooling cost per part and economical design of tools and fixtures.
• Manages and tracks projects to ensure on time delivery of welding tools and fixtures. Supports established tool tracking system.
• Provides welding tooling and fixtures which are ergonomically sound and complies with governmental regulations.
• Responsible for helping to identify a supplier base with work group advisors, manufacturing engineers, and purchasing that will take a proactive role in meeting our existing and future needs. Part of the development of tracking systems (workload and project management) that will enable the Welding Tool and fixture Design group to provide more detailed information of their activities.
• Designs Welding tools and fixtures to meet Harley-Davidson's standards in quality, ergonomics, and safety along with sustaining required production rates. Works with supervisors, manufacturing/product engineers, and operators in the development of tools, fixtures, and machines to support existing and new product and process design.
• Provides robust tooling, fixturing, and attachments to meet established quality standards of production parts and assemblies.
• Ability to apply knowledge of best practices with suppliers to develop best practice assembly methods and procedures and how their own area integrates with others to drive results.
• Implements JIT and Lean Manufacturing principles (5s, Six Sigma, CI system, etc.).
• Performs supplier technical assessments and implements supplier technical development plans.
• Preparing the internal PPAP package and Standard work for support the operation.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
• Bachelor's Degree in Welding Engineer, Mechanical Engineering, Tooling Engineer or related field Required.
• Typically requires a minimum of 3-5 years of related experience.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively within and / or lead a group or team.
