Electrical Design Manager (Solar)
About this position
Electrical Design Manager will lead the electrical design team in developing and executing solar power plant projects. This role focuses on delivering high-quality electrical engineering solutions, overseeing the design process from concept to completion, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and supporting project teams through construction, commissioning, and operation phases.
Responsibilities
• Lead, mentor, and manage the design engineering team.
• Conduct regular performance reviews, provide training, and foster a collaborative environment.
• Develop electrical design plans, including single-line diagrams, layouts, cable routing, grounding, and protection systems for solar PV plants.
• Conduct load flow, short-circuit, and power system stability studies.
• Specify and select electrical equipment such as transformers, inverters, switchgear, and protection devices.
• Support the preparation of design documentation for permits and approvals.
• Liaise with external consultants, contractors, utility companies, and regulatory bodies to ensure alignment with project requirements.
• Work closely with procurement, construction, and operations teams to ensure smooth project execution and transitions.
• Provide technical support during the construction phase, addressing design-related issues.
• Participate in commissioning and testing activities, troubleshooting electrical systems when needed.
• Drive the adoption of best practices, innovative technologies, and design efficiencies in solar energy systems.
• Stay updated with the latest trends and technologies in renewable energy and electrical engineering.
Requirements
• Master’s degree or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in electrical design, with at least 3 years in a managerial role. Experience in solar PV systems is essential.
• Professional Engineer license preferred.
• Proficient in electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD, PVsyst).
• Experience with power system analysis, design of MV and HV systems.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
• Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail.
