About this position

The Legal and Regulatory Affairs Manager is a multifaceted legal professional responsible for managing various aspects of legal compliance, regulatory affairs, government relations, and public affairs within East-West Seed Thailand. This role combines legal expertise with strategic planning and communication skills to ensure adherence to laws, regulations and corporate policies while also fostering positive relationships with government agencies and other relevant stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Legal Compliance
• Monitor and interpret laws, regulations and industry standards affecting EWTH’s operations, including, but not limited to seed movement, quality standards, consumer laws, and intellectual property
• Develop and implement compliance programs to ensure adherence to legal requirements
• Provide legal guidance to internal departments on various matters

Regulatory Affairs
• Interface with regulatory agencies to obtain necessary permits, licenses, and approvals
• Stay abreast of regulatory developments related to the seed industry and assess their impact on the organization
• Prepare submissions and responses to regulatory inquiries and audits
• Provide clarity and guidance on seed movement into and out of Thailand
• Ensure compliance of packaging and other materials

Government Liaison
• Serve as the primary point of contact between EWTH and government agencies both at the national and local levels

Legal Operations
• Draft, review, and negotiate contract required by EWTH in its day-to-day operations.
• Support internal clients in negotiating terms of various transactions to ensure that a mutually acceptable agreement is concluded in a timely manner
• Provide strategic advice and guidance to internal clients

Requirements

● Bachelor’s degree in law from a reputable university and licensed to practice law in Thailand
● Proven experience in practicing law, preferable in areas such as corporate law, regulatory compliance, or government relations
● Strong understanding of relevant legal and regulatory frameworks, including regulations related to the seed industry e.g. phytosanitary regulation, seed law and plant variety protection law at least at the national level
● Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders
● Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on achieving business objectives while mitigating legal and regulatory risks
● Relationship-building skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, external partners, and government officials
● Demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to ethical conduct in all aspects of the job
