About this position

As Material Planner, you will be responsible for sourcing and procuring goods and services to support our organization's operational needs. Your role involves optimizing the flow of materials and ensuring timely, cost-effective delivery of high-quality products to support production and meet customer demand. You will analyse market trends and demand forecasts to make informed purchasing decisions, while collaborating with internal teams to align procurement strategies with overall business goals. Strong analytical skills, negotiation expertise, a keen understanding of supply chain processes and the ability to build lasting supplier relationships are essential for success in this position.

Responsibilities

• Demand Forecasting: collaborate with sales to gather and analyse demand forecasts. Use historical data and market trends to develop accurate and timely demand forecasts for materials. Monitor market conditions and geopolitical factors that may impact the availability of materials.
• Inventory Management: monitor and maintain optimal inventory levels to meet production and customer demand. Implement inventory control measures to minimize excess or obsolete stock.
• Material Requirement Planning (MRP): utilize MRP systems to plan and schedule material needs based on production schedules and demand forecasts. Coordinate with production planning to adjust production plans and material orders as necessary to address changes in demand or supply.
• Order Planning: generate and process purchase orders accurately and efficiently for the commodity you oversee. Provide regular updates on material availability, order status, and potential issues to relevant stakeholders. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on production and inventory plans.
• Lead Time Management: analyse lead times for materials and coordinate with suppliers to minimize lead time variability. Implement strategies to mitigate the impact of lead time fluctuations. work closely with suppliers to communicate demand forecasts and resolve any supply issues. Evaluate supplier service level (OTD).
• Vendor Management: Collaborate with your Purchasing Manager to identify and assess potential suppliers based on quality, cost, and reliability. Build and maintain strong relationships with your key suppliers to ensure a consistent supply of products or services. Negotiate terms and conditions to secure favorable agreements, payment terms, and enhanced service levels.
• Quality Assurance: collaborate with quality control teams to ensure that purchased goods meet the required standards. Address and resolve any quality issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field.
• Proven experience in material planning, procurement, or supply chain management.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong negotiation and communication skills.
• Proficient in vendor management and relationship-building.
• Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret and leverage data for decision-making.
• Good knowledge in MS Office tools.
• Hands-on experience with SAP/ ERP.
