About this position

The Assistant Manager, HSSE Compliance and DG is responsible for overseeing HSSE matters at Freight Operations, focusing on road transport safety and warehouse safety management, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, and leading HSSE initiatives within the organization.

Responsibilities

• Overall responsibility for HSSE (Health, Safety, Security, Environmental) matters at Freight Operations.
• Mainly, but not solely, focused on the road transport safety and warehouse safety management.
• Ensures proper safety risk assessment of Facilities, warehouses and transportation.
• Ensure compliance with all latest Laws & Regulations, Customer Standards, and Schenker Standards pertaining to HSSE.
• Maintain, update, improve, develop, and implement HSSE standards and policies in consultation with HSSE Manager.
• Interface with Corporate Compliance Team for communication with Schenker Regional/Global.
• To coach operations team on HSSE awareness and work in secure place and safe environment.
• To develop and lead HSSE organization in Operations and ensure all appropriate training is provided to all staff as necessary.
• To provide and review on the Health Safety Environment and Security record and performance report.
• Ensure that all Health & Safety policies, procedures, rules and regulations are adhered to and are regularly reviewed, updated and communicated.
• Ensure Post meets its statutory obligations in all areas pertaining to health, safety and welfare at work, including recommended mandatory training and reporting.
• Ensure that all accidents are documented, investigated and recommended improvements implemented.
• Ensure that safety inspections are carried out, fire drills and fire alarms are correctly reported, safety inspections, risk assessments and lone working procedures are managed and employees are aware of their responsibilities.
• Co-ordinate the development of health & safety policies, systems of work and procedures.
• Establish a full programmed of documented health & safety inspections, audits and checks.
• Establish a structured programmed of health & safety training throughout Post.
• Keep up to date with all aspects of relevant health, safety & welfare at work and communicate relevant changes to stakeholders.
• Liaise with suppliers for procurement of health and safety resources.
• Assist HSSE team with audit follow up on health and safety matters. Provide compliance support across the core streams in DB Schenker. Working with Head of HSSE to ensure ideal scores on compliance indicators.
• Provide compliance support across the core streams in Corporate DB Schenker.
• Operate and maintain the port’s Dangerous Goods systems, ensuring full availability of necessary information.
• Ensure export DG containers are not shipped unless they conform to IMDG requirements.
• Ensure all applicable Tariff charges are raised to customers, where justified.
• Ensure full compliance with Explosives and Firearms legislation as prescribed to the company in the license and authorities obtained.
• Act as an Enforcement Inspector as required by the Dangerous Goods in Harbour Areas Regulations (DGHAR) and by powers confirmed via section 19(1) of the Health and Safety a Work Act (HSWA).
• Provide Dangerous Goods training to management, employees and customers as required.

Requirements

• Relevant qualifications in Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental management.
• Experience in HSSE compliance and Dangerous Goods management.
• Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and regulations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to lead and train teams effectively.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient in using safety management systems and tools.
