Design Manager
About this position
Responsibilities
• Lead and manage the design phase of data center projects from initiation through completion.
• Ensure alignment with the project scope, schedule, and budget, as well as client requirements and industry standards.
• Coordinate and collaborate with cross-functional teams, including architects, engineers, construction teams, and contractors.
• Track and report on project progress, managing risks and resolving design-related issues.
• Oversee the preparation and review of design documents, including architectural plans, electrical and mechanical systems, and other technical drawings.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant codes, regulations, and safety standards.
• Manage design reviews and provide feedback to improve the efficiency and quality of designs.
• Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and senior leadership to ensure clear communication regarding project requirements and progress.
• Provide technical guidance and support to the design and engineering teams, ensuring that project objectives are met.
• Identify design-related risks and propose solutions to mitigate them.
• Conduct regular quality assurance checks to ensure that design deliverables meet established standards.
• Manage the review and approval process for all design and engineering documentation.
• Stay updated on the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in data center design.
• Recommend innovative solutions to improve design efficiency, scalability, and sustainability.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Proven experience (typically 5+ years) in managing the design of large-scale, complex data center projects.
• Strong knowledge of data center operations, including power, cooling, network infrastructure, and security systems.
• Expertise in relevant design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, BIM, etc.).
• In-depth understanding of local building codes, standards, and regulations for data centers.
• Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage timelines, budgets, and resources effectively.
• Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills, with experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills, with a client-focused mindset.
• Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
