Costing Manager
About this position
The Costing Manager is responsible for managing the costing operations, ensuring accurate product costing, and financial analysis to support business decision-making. The role involves collaborating with production, procurement, and finance teams to develop and maintain cost accounting systems, analyze variances, and provide insights into cost control and profitability.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and maintain accurate cost accounting systems and processes.
• Review and ensure accurate product costing, including material, labor, and overhead costs.
• Oversee and manage inventory valuation, cost of goods sold (COGS), and standard costing.
• Perform in-depth cost analysis and profitability assessments for product lines and business segments.
• Prepare periodic cost reports, budgets, and forecasts for management review.
• Analyze and monitor cost variances, identifying areas for improvement or optimization.
• Provide cost data and insights to support business strategies, pricing decisions, and operational efficiencies.
• Assist in the preparation of the company’s annual budget and periodic forecasts, ensuring alignment with operational goals.
• Collaborate with department heads to ensure budget adherence and cost control measures.
• Work closely with the procurement, production, and operations teams to develop cost models and understand production flow.
• Participate in product development and pricing discussions to ensure accurate costing for new products.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives related to cost reduction and operational efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with internal financial controls, policies, and procedures related to costing and inventory.
• Support internal and external audits by providing accurate costing and inventory records.
• Lead and mentor the costing team, providing guidance on technical costing matters and career development.
• Foster a collaborative and performance-driven team environment.
Requirements
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s degree or CPA/CMA is a plus).
• Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in cost accounting or finance, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles and practices.
• Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Experience with standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory management.
• Proven experience in leading a team and managing cross-functional collaborations.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
