Junior IT Network Engineer
About this position
The Junior IT Network Engineer is responsible for assisting in the configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of an organization's network infrastructure. Working under the guidance of an IT operation manager, this role involves ensuring network performance, identifying network issues, and providing technical support for both hardware and software systems.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist in the installation and configuration of network hardware (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls).
• Monitor network performance and ensure high availability and reliability.
• Support in configuring and maintaining Local Area Networks (LANs), Wide Area Networks (WANs), and other related network infrastructure.
• Project planning and managing tasks in a project, ensuring that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget and developing project scopes and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility.
• Identify and troubleshoot network-related issues, including connectivity problems, slow performance, and hardware failures.
• Work with the IT support team to resolve issues quickly and efficiently.
• Document network problems and resolutions for future reference.
• Assist in maintaining and configuring network security, including firewalls and access control systems.
• Perform routine network vulnerability assessments and implement security updates.
• Respond to security incidents and breaches under the guidance of senior engineers.
• Use monitoring tools to track network performance and report any irregularities.
• Assist in generating network performance reports, including bandwidth usage and uptime statistics.
• Maintain network diagrams, asset inventories, and related documentation.
• Provide technical support and training to end users on network systems.
• Assist in maintaining disaster recovery procedures.
• Collaborate with IT teams to support project implementations.
• Stay updated on emerging technologies and network trends to suggest improvements.
Requirements
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or relevant certifications)
Technical Skills:
• Basic knowledge of network hardware (routers, switches, firewalls, etc.).
• Familiarity with network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, etc.).
• Experience with LAN/Wi-Fi, WAN, firewalls, VPN design, implementation, troubleshooting, and problem resolution.
• Basic understanding of network monitoring tools (e.g., Wireshark, SolarWinds).
