Senior Biodiversity Specialist
About this position
AFRY is seeking a Senior Biodiversity Specialist with extensive experience in biodiversity assessments and field surveys, particularly for hydropower projects, to join their Hydropower-Sustainability team in Southeast Asia.
Responsibilities
• Conduct field surveys and biodiversity baseline data collection for Critical Habitat Assessments (CHA) as per IFC PS 6 requirements or similar.
• Implement offset measures under “No Net Loss” and “Net Gain” strategies under a Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) in compliance with IFC PS 6 requirements or similar.
• Participate in the preparation of Environmental, Social and Health Impact Assessments (ESHIAs), CHAs, and BAPs.
• Coordinate and supervise field surveys.
• Involve in the preparation for Environmental Due Diligence as auditors or Lenders Environmental and Social Advisor.
• Work on biodiversity assessments primarily for hydropower projects, but also for solar, wind farm projects, or linear infrastructure such as railways or transmission lines.
Requirements
• Biodiversity Specialist with 10+ years of experience in the field of Biodiversity Assessments for ESHIAs (incl. CHA, BAP) and/or field surveys and/or implementation of biodiversity protection of offset measures.
• Experienced in the review and preparation of Biodiversity Assessments and Action Plans compliant with International Standards, particularly IFC Performance Standards and ADB Safeguard Requirements would be considered an advantage.
• Based in Bangkok or Vientiane, but willing to travel and carry out frequent field work for EIAs including field surveys for baseline assessments and inspections/audits in various countries.
• Willing to work as part of an interdisciplinary team for international hydropower and renewable energy projects in Southeast Asia and beyond.
• Thai or Lao national (excellent in Thai or Lao language in writing, listening, speaking and reading).
• Master’s degree or PHD in relevant fields such as Biology, Zoology, Conservation Biology, Wildlife Conservation, Aquatic Ecology, Conservation and Restoration Science, Fisheries, or similar.
• Very good working proficiency in English language (TOEIC score of 800+ or equivalent), submission of English testing is encouraged.
