What does a Sommelier do?

The Sommelier is responsible for curating and managing an exceptional wine program, ensuring a diverse and high-quality selection that complements the company's culinary offerings. Reporting to the Head Chef, the Sommelier will collaborate closely with the culinary team to create memorable dining experiences, provide expert wine recommendations, and maintain inventory and pricing. This role requires a deep knowledge of wines, excellent communication skills, and a passion for delivering exceptional service.

Responsibilities of Sommelier

• Conduct wine tastings and educate customers about different types of wines and their characteristics
• Create and update wine lists, ensuring a diverse and well-curated selection
• Assist customers in selecting wines that complement their meals or preferences
• Provide recommendations for food and wine pairings to enhance the dining experience
• Manage the wine cellar, including inventory control, ordering, and storage
• Stay updated on industry trends, new wine releases, and emerging wine regions
• Train and mentor staff members on wine knowledge and service techniques
• Collaborate with the kitchen team to develop wine-friendly dishes and menus
• Conduct staff training sessions on wine service and etiquette
• Organize and host wine events, such as wine dinners, tastings, and wine education classes
