What does a School Librarian do?
The School Librarian is responsible for managing the school library and providing educational resources to students and staff. This role involves organizing and cataloging books, assisting with research projects, and promoting a love for reading and learning. The School Librarian reports to the Principal or Head of School.
Responsibilities of School Librarian
• Manage and organize the school library collection, including cataloging, shelving, and maintaining an accurate inventory.
• Assist students and staff in locating and selecting appropriate reading materials, both print and digital.
• Teach information literacy skills to students, including how to effectively search for and evaluate information.
• Collaborate with teachers to develop and implement library-based lessons and activities that support the curriculum.
• Promote a love of reading and lifelong learning by organizing book clubs, author visits, and other literacy events.
• Stay up-to-date with current trends in children's and young adult literature, and make recommendations for new acquisitions.
• Maintain a welcoming and inclusive library environment that encourages students of all backgrounds and abilities to utilize the resources.
• Provide technology support to students and staff, including troubleshooting issues with computers, printers, and other library equipment.
• Develop and maintain relationships with local public libraries and other community organizations to enhance library services.
• Stay informed about copyright laws and ensure compliance when reproducing or distributing copyrighted materials
