What does a Purchasing Supervisor do?
The Purchasing Supervisor is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the purchasing department. This role will ensure that the department is properly resourced, that vendors are properly managed, and that all purchasing activities are compliant with company policies and procedures. The Purchasing Supervisor will also be responsible for developing and monitoring purchasing strategies and policies, ensuring the timely procurement of goods and services, and maintaining accurate records of all purchases. Additionally, this role will provide guidance and training to staff and ensure the efficient and timely completion of purchases.
Responsibilities of Purchasing Supervisor
1. Develop and implement purchasing strategies to ensure optimum acquisition of materials, supplies and services at the best price and terms.
2. Ensure compliance with purchasing policies, procedures and controls.
3. Monitor and analyze market trends and pricing to ensure competitive pricing.
4. Maintain complete and accurate purchasing records and reports.
5. Select and negotiate with vendors and suppliers to obtain the best terms and prices for materials, supplies and services.
6. Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors and suppliers.
7. Supervise and manage the daily activities of the purchasing team.
8. Monitor and evaluate supplier performance to ensure contract compliance.
9. Identify and develop new sources of supply to meet changing business needs.
10. Ensure continuous improvement in the purchasing process.
