What does a Health Safety and Environmental Technician (HSE) do?

The Health Safety and Environmental Technician (HSE) is responsible for ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations in the workplace. They will conduct inspections, identify potential hazards, and develop and implement safety protocols. This position reports to the Health Safety and Environmental Manager, working closely with them to maintain a safe and environmentally friendly work environment.

Responsibilities of Health Safety and Environmental Technician (HSE)

• Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify potential health, safety, and environmental hazards within the workplace.
• Develop and implement safety policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
• Provide training and education to employees on health, safety, and environmental practices and procedures.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
• Maintain and update safety data sheets (SDS) and ensure proper labeling and storage of hazardous materials.
• Conduct risk assessments and develop risk mitigation strategies to minimize workplace hazards.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs and initiatives, and make recommendations for improvement.
• Collaborate with management and employees to develop emergency response plans and conduct drills to ensure preparedness.
• Coordinate with regulatory agencies and participate in inspections and audits to demonstrate compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
