What does a Head of Finance do?

The Head of Finance is responsible for overseeing the financial and accounting operations of the organisation, formulating and managing the budget, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and providing financial guidance to the leadership team. The position requires strong financial analysis and reporting skills, as well as a deep understanding of financial and accounting principles. The successful candidate must be highly organised, proactive, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
Responsibilities of Head of Finance
1. Develop and monitor financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
2. Prepare annual financial statements and periodic financial reports to the Board of Directors.
3. Develop and manage the annual budget and ensure that financial objectives are met.
4. Analyze financial data and develop financial plans and strategies to support the organization's goals.
5. Monitor revenue and expenditure trends, and recommend appropriate budget adjustments.
6. Oversee the selection and implementation of new accounting systems and software.
7. Develop and maintain financial models and tools for forecasting, budgeting and performance analysis.
8. Manage the investment and cash management activities of the organization.
9. Negotiate contracts with vendors and suppliers.
10. Audit financial transactions and documents to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations.
