What does a Estimating Engineer do?

We are currently seeking an Estimating Engineer to join our team. The Estimating Engineer will be responsible for analyzing and preparing cost estimates for projects from conception to completion. The successful candidate must be a highly organized individual with excellent technical, mathematical and problem-solving skills who is able to work independently and as part of a team. The Estimating Engineer must have a strong understanding of engineering principles, materials and processes. Responsibilities of Estimating Engineer

1. Analyze drawings, specifications, proposals and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials and labor estimates for projects.
2. Prepare estimates for labor, material and other related costs for specific projects.
3. Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments or construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
4. Develop and analyze cost control systems to evaluate project performance and cost effectiveness.
5. Prepare and submit budget estimates, progress reports and cost tracking reports.
6. Utilize computer software to develop, maintain and update project cost data.
7. Participate in the conceptual development of a construction project and coordinate the preparation of cost estimates.
8. Monitor material, labor and equipment costs to ensure accuracy in estimating.
9. Research new materials and methods of construction to remain current with changes in the industry.
10. Develop and maintain relationships with vendors and subcontractors to ensure accurate estimates.
