What does a Dog Trainer do?
The Dog Trainer position is responsible for training dogs using positive reinforcement techniques and developing customized training plans to address specific behavioral issues. Reporting to the Head of Animal Training, the Dog Trainer will work closely with clients to assess their needs, provide guidance, and ensure effective training sessions. This role requires strong communication skills, a deep understanding of canine behavior, and the ability to create a positive and safe learning environment for both dogs and their owners.
Responsibilities of Dog Trainer
• Assessing and evaluating dogs' behavior and temperament to determine training needs
• Designing and implementing customized training programs based on individual dog's needs and goals
• Teaching basic obedience commands such as sit, stay, come, and heel
• Conducting group training classes to socialize dogs and improve their behavior in a controlled environment
• Providing one-on-one training sessions to address specific behavioral issues or advanced training requirements
• Utilizing positive reinforcement techniques to encourage desired behaviors and discourage unwanted behaviors
• Monitoring and documenting dogs' progress throughout the training process
• Educating dog owners on effective training methods and techniques to ensure consistency at home
