What does a Data Center Engineer do?

The Data Center Engineer is responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and maintenance of the company's data center infrastructure. Reporting to the Director of IT Operations, this role involves ensuring the availability, security, and efficiency of the data center, as well as managing hardware and software installations, upgrades, and troubleshooting. The Data Center Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize data center operations and support the organization's technological needs.

Responsibilities of Data Center Engineer

• Designing and implementing data center infrastructure solutions to meet the company's needs and requirements.
• Managing and maintaining the data center environment, including servers, storage systems, networking equipment, and power and cooling systems.
• Monitoring and troubleshooting data center infrastructure to ensure optimal performance and availability.
• Conducting regular audits and assessments of the data center to identify and address any potential risks or vulnerabilities.
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to plan and execute data center migrations, expansions, and upgrades.
• Developing and implementing data center policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
• Managing and maintaining data center documentation, including network diagrams, equipment inventories, and configuration records.
• Providing technical support and guidance to other IT teams and end-users regarding data center infrastructure and operations.
• Participating in on-call rotations and responding to data center emergencies or incidents in a timely manner.
• Staying up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in data center engineering and recommending improvements or enhancements
